"Modern" music that has Romantic characteristics

Well I thought I'd like to listen to some "modern" [ as in "after the Romantic period" ] music that you people think has some Romantic characteristics to it, I decided it might be a good idea to paste the characteristics of the music from that period [ according to Wikipedia ] and see if some of the bands/artists you like might fit into any or various of them:

The main characteristics of Romantic music

• A freedom in form and design; a more intense personal expression of emotion in which fantasy, imagination and a quest for adventure play an important part.
  
• Emphasis on lyrical, songlike melodies; adventurous modulation; richer harmonies, often chromatic, with striking use of dischords.
  
• Denser, weightier textures with bold dramatic contrasts, exploring a wider range of pitch, dynamics and tone-colours.
  
• Expansion of the orchestra, sometimes to gigantic proportions; the invention of the valve system leads to development of the brass section whose weight and power often dominate the texture.
  
• Rich variety of types of piece, ranging from songs and fairly short piano pieces to huge musical canvasses with lengthy time-span structures with spectacular dramatic and dynamic climaxes.
  
• Closer links with other arts lead to a keener interest in programme music (programme symphony, symphonic poem, concert overture).
  
• Shape and unity brought to lengthy works by use of recurring themes (sometimes transformed/developed): idée fixe (Berlioz), thematic transformations (Liszt), leading-motive (Wagner), motto theme.
  
• Greater technical virtuosity – especially from pianists and violinists.
  
• Nationalism: reaction against German influences by composers of other countries (especially Russia, Bohemia, Norway).
  

Hope to get some nice suggestions.. oh also if you could put which of the characteristics you think your artist/band has and why you think that it has them it would be nice

Problem with the description of "Modern Romantic Music" that Wikipedia gives could easily welcome people to say bands such as Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, etc. happen to fit in the descriptives of a "Modern Romantic Band".
Doesn't Wikipedia have a band list on there for examples of such, as to distinguish the difference?

Hmm, somehow I don't have an idea what could fit there... so like music that is classical but from later than Romantic period or music that is "non artistic"/"non classical"...? (Like Lacrimosa? =D some traits could be found there, I guess )
This is kind of confusing, I am just seeing "Romantic composers" on wikipedia and apparently it's not the same as composers of Romanticism @_@

Mmm well the description is for Romantic music, not for "modern" Romantic music [ that is actually I sort of came up with XD so no list for that ] . And if people think those bands fit in the description then that's the purpose of this thread, but I'd like to read why they think that...

Well I was talking of any kind of music classical or non-classical but @_@ that about "Romantic composers" not belonging to "Romanticism" is very confusing, there is maybe some sort of disagreement about the subject because on another Wikipedia page they make it sound as even though it's another period of time it does represent the ideology of the movement and thus they must be included as part of it:

"The era of Romantic music is defined in this article as the period of European classical music that runs roughly from 1820 to 1910, as well as music written according to the norms and styles of that period. The Romantic period was preceded by the classical period, and was followed by the modernist period.

Romantic music is related to romanticism in literature, visual arts, and philosophy, though the conventional time periods used in musicology are very different from their counterparts in the other arts, which define "romantic" as running from the 1780s to the 1840s."

Nightwish and Within Temptation could be perceived as modern Romantic music.. as many Heavy, Gothic, Symphonic and even Death Metal bands..

My 15 yr old son has to write a paper using a song that defines romanticism, citing lyrics. I am of no help to him. Any ideas or suggestions?
